The book Nutrition and Integrative Medicine: A Primer for Clinicians is a medical text book to which I have contributed the chapter on the use of nutrition to treat a number of chronic diseases.
The chapter goes into details about the researchers of Dr. Ornish, Dr. Esselstyn and other pioneering physicians who have studied the use of nutrition (including fasting) as primary treatment for heart, metabolic and autoimmune diseases (including MS).
These researchers had impressive results. For a long time I have been hoping that this information will reach working doctors, and will influence our medical culture. That is why I was so happy when I was asked to contribute a chapter, and even happier to see that it is now in print.
What the experts are saying:
“Nicely done, Miriam. Very scholarly. Warmest regards, Joel”
Dr Joel Fuhrman, M.D. author of Eat to Live
“You have done a great work in putting the emphasis where it belongs. Physicians have a great opportunity of experiencing the joys of seeing many of their patients with chronic disease getting well, and that within weeks, if we take the suggested guidelines in the chapter more seriously.”
Dr Hans Diehl, Clinical Professor of Preventive Medicine, Loma Linda University School of Medicine, founder Lifestyle Medicine Institute and CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program)
“Although some patients may choose not to follow this type of dietary regime, it is a viable treatment option that patients should be made aware of”
Brenda Davis RD, author of Becoming Vegan
